We are at the business end of the BBL season where every match has a bearing on the make up of the finals. That’s definitely the case tonight at Blundstone Arena in Hobart, where the Hobart Hurricanes meet the Sydney Thunder. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 6:10pm (AEDT).

The Hobart Hurricanes breathed some life into their BBL season by registering a tight win against the Melbourne Renegades on Tuesday night. They are reliant on other results going their way, but still could squeak into the top five if they win their last two matches.

The batting line-up does have a stronger feel about it, with both Matt Wade and Ben McDermott striking the ball nicely against the Renegades. They welcome back D’Arcy Short for this one, and he will be looking to click into gear quickly.

On the bowling front, Qais Ahmad has continued to impress, while Nathan Ellis is proving to be one of the finds of the season. His final over against the Renegades was high class and secured the important win.

The Sydney Thunder, on the other hand, are starting to waiver. They secured a DLS win against the Sixers recently, but heavy losses against the Renegades and Perth Scorchers have them tumbling at the edge of the top five.

The problem with their batting is that outside their top three of Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales and Callum Ferguson, there is not a whole lot of talent. If two of these batsmen don’t post a score, the Thunder struggle to generate competitive totals.

The loss of Chris Green has also hurt the Thunder, with their spinning ranks a bit thin. While Daniel Sams has taken a bag of wickets, the rest of the attack has struggled.

Prediction
The Hobart Hurricanes are still missing James Faulkner and Riley Meredith but I’m sensing the home team might have enough here.

This is the first time this season that D’Arcy Short and Matt Wade will open the batting together, and we know how well that has worked in the past.

Hobart Hurricanes by 20 runs or three wickets.
