The 2023 Cricket World Cup final sees hosts India take on Australia in the city of Ahmedabad. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:30pm (AEDT).

What a tournament this has been for India. Every time they have been put under pressure, someone has stood up for them and led India to dominant victories.

Whether it’s the skipper Rohit Sharma getting India off to fast starts or superstar Virat Kohli holding the innings together, India look unstoppable with the bat. Add in Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami seaming the ball both ways and it seems that India have no weaknesses.

Except there is one, that no team has been able to exploit – their lack of sixth bowling options. With Hardik Pandya injured, Rohit Sharma is banking heavily on five frontline bowlers to get the job done for him every game. If Australia’s top order tees off a few of against a few of the Indian bowlers, it could spell trouble.

After a slow start to the tournament, Australia have gradually built their confidence up and are playing their eighth ICC Cricket World Cup final in the men’s edition.

David Warner, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh have stood up at different times in the tournament, but a lack of consistency bar Glenn Maxwell in the Australian middle order has stopped Australia from having the perfect innings with the bat so far.

However, Ahmedabad is a great batting track and suitable for free-flowing players.

Mitchell Starc came back into the tournament with a bang in the semi-final and will look to emulate his performance in Kolkata at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Prediction

Dew does come into play at Ahmedabad, which will make chasing easier in the latter part of the innings. However, I don’t think either team is willing to bowl first in a final where even a par score could be enough.

India have been almost flawless in the tournament, but Australia knows how to win them. They haven’t played their best cricket this World Cup, but they’ve done enough.

Australia to hold their nerve under pressure and win in a thriller.
