India and Australia do battle in the first of three one-day internationals. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:00pm (AEDT).
After a rampaging summer when Test match victories came in abundance, the Australian cricket team head to the subcontinent for three matches against arguably the best cricket team in the world.
The series will set things up nicely for the Test matches that will follow during the next Australian summer and passions will be on display when two old foes go head to head.
Both teams look strong on paper, with many of the Australians coming straight out of T20 Big Bash in fine form.
As usual, the Indian conditions will play a key role in the series. The lower and slower bounce will test the patience of the Australian batting line-up and the Indian spinners will look to dominate through the middle overs.
The result of the toss could be an important factor in the series, with both sides well rounded in terms of batting and bowling. Runs on the board are likely to provide a useful advantage when the matches tighten up under lights and the pitches become slower and sticky.
Prediction
With the Australians fresh off the plane and the Indians in their own conditions, logic suggests India may well have the firepower to win the opening encounter off the the back of the home support.
Expect the Australians to fight back later in the series, but this first match looks a likely Indian win to me.
