With their T20 World Cup hopes hanging by a thread, India simply must beat Scotland to keep themselves alive. Join The Roar for live scores from 1am (AEDT).

Losses to Pakistan and India in their opening two matches left India badly behind the eight-ball; and while they shook out some of the cobwebs with a thumping 66-run win over Afghanistan, concerns remain. Should New Zealand do as expected and take care of Namibia in the preceding match to this one, then India will be left no choice but to demolish Associate nations Scotland and then Namibia, hope Afghanistan beat the Black Caps in their final group stage game and hope that their net run rate is good enough to overtake both of them. No pressure.

The win over Afghanistan did show how lethal India can be at their best, and why any of the other semi-final sides would be glad to see them fail to qualify. Having struggled to get out of a gallop with the bat against Pakistan and New Zealand, they unleashed against Afghanistan, a 140-run opening stand between Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul leading them to a tournament-high score of 210. Captain and talisman Virat Kohli wasn’t even required out in the middle.

Scotland have probably been the worst side in the Super 12s as reality sets in after their stunning win over Bangladesh in the qualifiers secured their entry to the big stage. However, an encouraging 16-run loss to New Zealand in their most recent game showed they can be a tricky opponent to navigate.

Watch out for in-form all-rounder Michael Leask to have an impact. He’s made twin 40s in Scotland’s two most recent games, the latter off just 20 balls against the Black Caps attack that suffocated India when they locked horns earlier in the tournament. Another Leask onslaught could make India’s task of winning, let alone boosting their net run rate, a serious challenge.
