After three losses in a row the Melbourne Renegades will hope that they can become the first team this season to topple the undefeated Hobart Hurricanes. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 7:15pm AEDT.

Having generally been a disappointing franchise during the short history of the BBL so far, the Melbourne Renegades looked like they might be coming of age when they opened their season with two wins.

A comfortable first-up victory over the Perth Scorchers – which was their first time beating the Western Australian side in nine attempts – was backed up by another win, this one taken over reigning champions the Adelaide Strikers.

However a woeful run chase against the Sydney Sixers which saw the Renegades restricted to 9/99 (chasing 132) gave them their first loss of the season and their batting has crumbled again and again since.

They were all too easy for the Melbourne Stars to chase down when they put up 9/148 in the Melbourne derby, and fell well short of chasing down the Strikers when facing them for a second time on Thursday last week, again losing all but one wicket.

Hobart on the other hand are the only undefeated team in the league and sit atop the table with a perfect 5-0 record, and two games in hand over the second-placed Sydney Sixers.

D’Arcy Short has picked up where he left off last season and been ably supported by Matt Wade, Ben McDermott and George Bailey.

If the Hurricanes could be accused of a flaw, it’s that they’ve often allowed their opponents to set bigger targets than they’d probably like to – of course, they’re yet to see a target they weren’t capable of chasing down.
