The BBL continues tonight when the Melbourne Renegades take on the Sydney Sixers at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match starting from 6.10pm (AEDT).
It’s still very early days in this competition but the Melbourne Renegades, sitting 7th on the ladder, will be desperate to get the win. They come up against a Sixers team that beat them by 145 runs just over a fortnight ago.
Moreso than most teams, the Renegades are heavily reliant on their big guns, Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh, to post a good score. If they don’t, the Renegades batting line-up can fold quickly.
The Renegades will be hoping for more from Rilee Rossouw, who has shown glimpses of what he can do.
The Renegades’ bowling attack, apart from first up against the Scorchers, has failed to fire so far. Kane Richardson is one of the best T20 bowlers around, so it should only be a matter of time.
On paper, the Sixers, with Moises Henriques and Sean Abbott in the expanded Australian squad, don’t look to have the best line-up. However, as a team, someone always seems to produce something special.
Last time out it was Daniel Hughes with 96 off 51 balls against the Melbourne Stars in what must be one of the best BBL matches ever. The Sixers just find a way to win.
From a bowling perspective, again, they perform well as a unit. Ben Dwarshuis and Stephen O’Keefe both have eight wickets so far in the competition.
Prediction
The Renegades are unpredictable as a big start from Finch or Marsh is not far away and, from there, the runs should flow.
However, the Sixers are playing consistently good cricket and I can’t see them losing tonight.
Sixers by 30 runs or five wickets.
