Two unbeaten sides go head to head as the Melbourne Thunder and Adelaide Strikers square off at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 7:10pm AEDT.
A fascinating contest awaits between two teams in great form, with both Melbourne and Adelaide securing good wins thus far in the BBL.
The Thunder are unbeaten in their opening two matches, earning wins over the Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes. Their performance with ball and bat is worthy of admiration with Adam Zampa and Haris Rauf snaring wickets consistently.
Rauf in particular has been a shining light since earning a call-up to replace Dale Steyn. Rauf is coming off a five-wicket haul against the Hurricanes, following a very promising performance against the Heat just days earlier. It certainly gives the Thunder a welcome headache when it comes to selecting their bowling attack for future matches. If Steyn is declared fit, things could get really complicated for Adelaide on top of dealing with Zampa and Rauf.
Throw in Marcus Stoinis’ sublime 81 off 54 deliveries and the Stars are certainly fancies to make it three straight wins tonight.
The Adelaide Strikers meanwhile are coming off a draw against the Sydney Thunder and a great win over the Perth Scorchers. Despite starting their innings poorly in the last two matches, key batsmen Jake Weatherald, Alex Carey and Jonathan Wells have helped stabilise the Adelaide innings and should present the Stars bowling attack with their best challenge to date.
The only concerning part of Adelaide’s game so far has been their bowling attack. If it wasn’t for Rashid Khan’s quick three wickets, Perth were well on course to defeating the Strikers handsomely despite chasing a total of nearly 200 in 18 overs.
If Khan isn’t firing for the Strikers, the Stars certainly have the batsmen in Stoinis and company to really go after Adelaide’s attack.
Prediction
Adelaide probably have the superior batting line-up but the Stars have an edge with their bowling attack given Rauf and Zampa’s form. If Khan, however, can produce the goods for Adelaide, the Strikers certainly have the batsmen that should post a high enough total to cause an upset.
Adelaide to win.
Can the Stars end the Strikers undefeated run or will Adelaide cause the upset? Join us on The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 7:10pm AEDT.
