Ted Summerton Reserve in Moe will host the all-important Big Bash clash between the Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 3pm (AEDT).
With both sides level on eight points, this is a game that potentially could have huge ramifications come finals.
Both sides currently sit outside the top four, and will need to win the bulk of their remaining matches if they have any ambitions to win the title come the end of the campaign.
Momentum tends to play a big part in T20 franchise cricket, and the Stars may have just found that momentum they needed the other night.
The Stars are coming off a six-wicket win over the Melbourne Renegades at Marvel Stadium.
It was a really even performance from Glenn Maxwell’s side, with everyone chipping in.
Jackson Bird, Marcus Stoinis, Liam Plunkett, Adam Zampa and Dwayne Bravo took all 10 wickets between them, which showed the versatility and depth the Stars possess in the bowling department.
Stoinis also showed why many believe he is the best all-rounder in the country, backing up his bowling performance with 70 not out.
The Stars will be pleased with what they achieved the other night, but they need to back it up.
The Strikers, on the other hand, got absolutely smashed at the Adelaide Oval in their previous match, losing to the Hobart Hurricanes by 10 wickets.
The Adelaide side batted first and scored 5/154, which is competitive. The Hurricanes though showed why they are top of the table and simply blew the Strikers away.
Colin Ingram was the standout player with the bat for the Strikers, scoring an unbeaten 67. With the ball, no one from Adelaide could stop either Matthew Wade or D’Arcy Short.
Ingram’s side no doubt will need to improve against the Stars if they wish to gain anything from the match, but they will confident in bouncing back as they are the reigning champions of the BBL.
Prediction
This game will be one to watch as both sides have basically a full squad to pick from, but something is telling me the Stars will get up in country Victoria, despite the Strikers having the experience of winning the competition last year.
It is one of those clashes that could really go either way, but the Stars are coming off a decent win and have some form behind them, unlike the Strikers.
