Eager to sneak their way into finals, the Brisbane Heat need to win when they face the Melbourne Stars at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday evening. Join The Roar for all the action, with live scores and a blog of the match from 7:10pm (AEDT).

The Stars’ winning streak was broken by the Adelaide Strikers on Wednesday evening, with Melbourne falling 11 runs short despite Peter Handscomb’s 65 not-out.

Clint Hinchliffe took three wickets to help keep Adelaide to a par total of 162, however, the Stars lost too many wickets in the chase to accelerate for victory.

Brisbane suffered their third straight loss on Thursday when the Sydney Sixers beat them by eight wickets at the Gabba.

Pace bowler James Pattinson top scored with 27 runs as the Heat put 126 on the board, a total which was chased down inside 16 overs largely by openers Josh Philippe and James Vince.

Melbourne’s latest signing from Pakistan, approved by the W/BBL Technical Committee on Friday, Dilbar Hussain will make his debut in green on Saturday night.

The fast bowler will be joined by Nathan Coulter-Nile in the squad.

Hilton Cartwright will miss the match with a broken hand, while Lance Morris has been omitted.

The Heat have made one change for the trip to Melbourne as Jack Prestwidge replaces Joe Burns in the 13-man squad.

In the opening week of the season, Melbourne defended 167 runs at Metricon Stadium to beat Brisbane by 22 runs.

Glenn Maxwell made half the runs off his own bat, partnering with four batsmen for short cameos to reach the par total. While Tom Banton made 64 and Matt Renshaw 39, the spin Stars spin bowling made life difficult in the chase.

In the return game at the MCG, will Brisbane collapse again or can they keep their finals hopes alive?

Prediction
Brisbane must win at least one match in Melbourne this weekend to stay in contention, though two wins will put them in a friendlier position in the final standings.

The Stars will be wary, not wanting to lose the momentum they’ve had all season, and while top spot is secured, Melbourne should go after an 11th win for the season when they face Brisbane this evening.

Melbourne Stars to win.

I wouldn’t survive in the modern coaching game. I’d have a sorefoot from kicking rumps.

Brisbane Heat win by 71 runs A great victory for the travelling side. They put 186 runs on the board, thanks to an impressive innings by AB de Villiers (71 from 37). Lynn had a 34 run cameo in the middle, while Labuschagne finished strong with 24 runs from 13 balls. Adam Zampa picked up 3 wickets. While Melbourne Stars started quickly with the bat, early breakthroughs by Pattinson and Swepson stalled the chase. Larkin (22 from 22) and Handscomb (27 from 18) stood up in the middle briefly, however, the Stars collapsed. Losing seven wickets for 45 runs, Melbourne looked a little slow, while Brisbane were fairly switched on in the field and fighting for the win. The Melbourne Stars now have a break until finals next weekend. Brisbane Heat play again on Monday against the Melbourne Renegades at Marvel Stadium. de Villiers was named player of the match for his effort with the bat and role behind stumps for the Heat this evening. Heat 5/186 Stars 115
