The Melbourne Stars take on the Perth Scorchers in the 25th game of the Big Bash League at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:15pm (AEDT).

Never count out the Scorchers. That’s a mantra teams would have learnt from playing against them over the seasons.

However, after falling to five defeats from six matches, there are serious question marks over the possibility of the Scorchers making it to the finals.

On the assumption that anywhere between seven to eight wins are needed to make it there, the Scorchers are very much in contention to make the top four, but with six to seven more victories needed from their last eight games, they haven’t left themselves a lot of wriggle room.

The Scorchers need to start winning and now.

Unfortunately for Perth, their batting has continued to struggle, with 147 from 20 overs being their top score so far in the tournament. And with the Marsh brothers expected not to feature in this game as well, the onus will be on the likes of Michael Klinger and Ashton Turner yet again.

The Stars have had a better start, with three wins from five matches to their name so far as opposed to the second-placed Sixers who have an extra win but having played a couple of extra matches.

What’s interesting to see is that the Stars’ wins have been based on team performances rather than individual brilliance.

Which is not to say they haven’t had match-winners – Sandeep Lamichhane has been one with eight wickets from four matches – but none of their batsmen or bowlers make the top eight of the wickets or runs lists.

In fact their best batsman has been Marcus Stoinis, who has scored just 146 runs, the 13th highest. Even Scorchers’ Turner has made 197.

And it will be this very team effort that will look to usurp the Scorchers in this encounter.

Prediction
Perth batsmen to come good but Melbourne Stars to still run away with a win.

The Scorchers batting finally comes good. The win, however, was built on a concerted performance by both, the batsmen and the bowlers. First Andrew Tye picked up four wickets, coming back from poor form, to restrict the Stars to 146. That, by itself was never going to enough for the Scorchers though because of the way things have gone in the tournament. Just one win from their previous games before this and all thanks to their batting woes. Tonight, however, it was Cameron Bancroft who led the way with a 50, ably supported by Michael Klinger before Ashton Turner came in and turned the game around on its head. A blazing innings that included three sixes and two fours ended the game in favour of the Scorchers. Scorchers now have two wins, Stars remain on three wins. Suneer Chowdhary here, signing off.

That's that, bizarre way to end the game. Some end to the #BBL08 game. Bosisto ducks under bouncer, keeper throws the stumps down, and he wants to take a single off the ricochet. Non-striker doesn't go for it, keeper knocks stumps off with Bosisto dozing outside his crease. Should be out... ...except it is the second bouncer of the over, called no-ball and the game is over at that stage.

Two wickets and two runs from the Bravo over. But the Scorchers are still on the verge of a convincing win with 10 needed from 18.

Bowled him! Is there life in this one? Full, straight but this is very quick - at least in comparison with the previous ball - and it ricochets off the Cartwright pads back on to the stumps. Bowled. Bravo's on a hattrick. 4/136 in the 17th.

Gone, bowled! Bravo's slower one has Agar... ...very slow ball, lobbed up and Agar could have played a couple of strokes in the time the ball came on. Misses. Bowled. 11 needed from 21.

When the going gets tough, the Scorchers get going. That's how it's been for them today, as Turner now wants to finish this off in double-quick time. Short of length from Boland and it's hooked over fine-leg for a six. Third in two overs. And there are eight other runs from the remaining five balls too, thanks to some very desperate running between the wickets - almost like the Scorchers need 10 an over. As it turns out, 14 from the over and they need just 12 from 24.

Bang! Six! Ashton Turner has taken on Beer and walloped it over mid-wicket for a maximum. And a wide later, he gives it a jab, beats the fielders at long-on and mid-wicket and it goes for a four. next ball is pitched up and Turner garnishes it nicely with a lofted on-drive over long-on for another six! 20 from the Beer over. Turned the game on its head.

What a spell from Bowe. He finishes with seven off his final over, and 22 from his four, picking up a wicket. 46 needed from 36.

Appeal for a stumping off the bowling of Bowe. And gone! Bancroft, on 59, went for a sweep against Bowe, misses and drafts his back foot outside the crease. Seb Gotch is quick to whip them off and gone. Out. Two down.

Three singles from the final three balls of the Bravo over makes it 12 from the over. 53 needed from 42.

Brilliant. Six! That was pitched right up to the Bancroft bat and Bravo gets hit straight over his own head for a maximum. That's after he had conceded three from the first two balls. 1/91 in 12.3
