Party time on the Gold Coast for the Melbourne Stars, as they host the Sydney Thunder at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of the match from 6:15pm AEDT.
The Stars started off the new year with a convincing victory over their rivals the Renegades.
After a shift up the order Marcus Stoinis starred with the bat, a 78 not out innings helping the Stars to a second win for BBL|08.
English fast bowler Liam Plunkett has joined the Melbourne Stars squad; he replaces young spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who will see out a pre-existing commitment in the Bangladesh Premier League.
The Thunder are coming off a thrilling one-run win over the Perth Scorchers in the West.
Jos Buttler (55) and Callum Ferguson (42) once again contributed with the bat, assisting the Thunder to a healthy total of 142.
Despite brilliant bowling efforts by Fawad Ahmed and Jono Cook, Perth got very close to stealing the win in a tense finish.
The Thunder have made one change for this weekend, Jay Lenton replaces Arjun Nair in the squad.
Metricon Stadium hosted the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers on New Year’s Day, where Chris Lynn went big with 84 off 55 balls and the Sixers chased it down with three balls to spare.
Between the two sides, the ball was sent into the crowd fourteen times. If that wicket is anything to go by it should be another exciting, high scoring night at the cricket.
Prediction
The Stars are featured heavily in the Australian ODI squad, so they’ll be working hard to get another win on the board before they lose some of their team.
