The tourists have fought back from a 2-0 deficit to force a decider, winning the last two games since the series moved behind closed doors to the spin-friendly drop-in track at the Cake Tin.
Skipper Aaron Finch has been key to the turnaround, reversing a horror run of form with 69 in the third game then a result-defining 79 not out in the fourth.
The Australian spinners have also been pivotal, with Ashton Agar, Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell combining for 13 wickets to spin their side to victory in the past two matches.
Despite missing their Test stars, this youthful Australian squad can take plenty of positives from this fightback in New Zealand as they continue their build-up to the T20 World Cup in India this October.
A series win would provide a boost to those preparations if the Aussies can claim victory in today’s decider.
