Australia have crossed the Tasman and tonight take on New Zealand for the first of five T20 internationals. Follow the action with live scores right here on The Roar from 5pm (AEDT).
Tonight’s series opener will see two squads picked on the back of form in each country’s domestic T20 competition: the Big Bash League in Australia and New Zealand’s Super Smash.
With none of Australia’s Test squad making the trip across the ditch due to the now-cancelled tour of South Africa, it’s a chance for the nation’s white-ball specialists to show their quality.
As such, Josh Philippe, the BBL10 player of the tournament who’s coming off consecutive titles with the Sydney Sixers, has been handed an international debut, and is set to come in at first drop behind openers Aaron Finch and Matthew Wade.
The Australian middle-to-lower order is stacked with all-rounders, giving captain Finch plenty of versatility with the ball and big hitting with the bat. Glenn Maxwell comes in at four and is followed by Mitchell Marsh, Daniel Sams and Ashton Agar.
Jhye Richardson, the BBL10 leading wicket-taker, is joined by Kane Richardson as the two specialist seamers, while Adam Zampa pairs up with Agar in the spinning department.
The Black Caps have named a strong side lined with international experience. Martin Guptill and Tim Seifert will open up, followed by skipper Kane Williamson at number three.
Devon Conway and Glenn Philipps come in at four and five before all-rounders Jimmy Neesham and Mitchell Santner. Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi and Trent Boult round out the XI.
