It’s do or die for Australia at the T20 World Cup as they take on the unbeaten Pakistan in a mouthwatering semi-final clash. Join The Roar for live scores and all the action from Dubai from 1am (AEDT).

New Zealand’s stunning win over England yesterday night shows just how quickly a dominant group stage can turn into despair with a poor performance in the knockouts. Pakistan will be wary of succumbing to the same fate, but there’s an unwanted piece of history going against them: no side has ever gone through a full T20 World Cup undefeated.

However, this tournament has looked from very early on like Pakistan’s to lose, the men in green stunning India in their opening match en route to a perfect run of five wins this tournament. Led by Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan at the top of the order and Shoaib Malik and Asif Ali at the death, they tore past India and then the Black Caps with scintillating chases; before their much-vaunted bowling attack spearheaded by Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan strangled the life out of run-chases from Associates Scotland and Namibia.

However, both will have their work cut out for them against Australia, the best team they’ve faced since they took down the Black Caps a fortnight ago. Aside from a pummelling at the hands of the now-eliminated England, Aaron Finch’s team have been equally impressive this World Cup. A nervy win over South Africa in their opening match proved crucial in the end; while thumping performances against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the West Indies ensured the Aussies progressed through to the final four by virtue of an excellent net run rate.

Pakistan have won four of the seven matches between these two sides in Dubai, with one additional tie back in 2012. However, Australia have won their two most recent T20Is against Pakistan, by 7 and 10 wickets respectively in a crushing series win on home soil in late 2019. The pitch for this match will be far different to what was on show down under; but the Aussies certainly don’t fear Babar Azam’s team the way they do England or India.

This is all set up to be a thrilling encounter, and both sides will back themselves to the hilt to defeat the Black Caps in Sunday night’s final. Can Pakistan secure their third T20 World Cup final, and first since winning the title in 2009? Or will it be the men in gold to keep their hopes of a maiden World T20 championship alive, the final empty spot in the biggest trophy cabinet in world cricket?
