It’s win and you’re in for Bangladesh and Pakistan as they face off for a T20 World Cup semi-final berth. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3pm (AEDT).
After South Africa’s shock loss to the Netherlands, this clash becomes a virtual quarter-final to determine who makes the semi-finals.
Bangladesh have gradually built their way into the Super 12s. Their best cricket has come against Zimbabwe and India, and they will be hoping for one last push against their rivals.
The batting has improved, but the middle order needs to step up, particularly skipper Shakib Al Hasan. From the bowling end of things, Taskin Ahmed has bowled brilliant spells throughout the tournament without much luck at times. Shoriful Islam had a horrid game against India, and could make way for either Mehidy Hasan, Soumya Sarkar or Ebadot Hossain.
Pakistan have finally won a few T20I games on Australian soil and are getting momentum at the right time. However, they cannot afford to have Babar Azam opening. The skipper is in woeful form, and needs to allow someone like Muhammad Haris to flourish at the top of the order.
Shaheen Afridi is gradually getting to full fitness, and looking sharper with the ball; but it’s all-rounder Shadab Khan that is the key man. Shadab turns the ball both ways even on surfaces without much spin, and offers so much as a middle-order bat. Bangladesh will need to nullify him if they are to have a chance of victory.
Prediction
It’s been a disappointing tournament for Pakistan at times, while Bangladesh seems to have found some belief in the T20 arena this World Cup.
Bangladesh will want to finish the Super 12s on a high, and have showed that their batting is improving enough to provide an upset.
Bangladesh to win in another last-over thriller.
