Pressing for a finals place, the Perth Scorchers host the in-form Adelaide Strikers at Optus Stadium in a Friday evening BBL double-header. Join The Roar for all the action with live scores and a blog from 9:10pm (AEDT).
On Monday evening Perth smashed Sydney Thunder by eight wickets to push themselves up the ladder and remain in finals contention.
Chris Jordan’s three wickets helped restrict Sydney to a 153-run total, which was almost run down by openers Josh Inglis (58 runs) and Liam Livingstone (78 runs) in 15 overs. Kurtis Patterson and Mitchell Marsh strode out to the middle to score the final few runs required.
Adelaide has already secured its finals berth, an 11-run win against the ladder-leading Melbourne Stars on Wednesday evening ensured the Strikers would return to the finals in BBL09.
Back at the Adelaide Oval, the Strikers accelerated late to put 162 runs on the board. Jono Wells made another brilliant 55 coming in at number five and was named player of the match. Peter Siddle took four wickets. Pace was also effective for Wes Agar, who took two wickets.
The Scorchers have made two changes, with Ashton Agar and Ashton Turner returning from national duties in India.
Liam Guthrie and Cameron Green have been omitted to make way for the Australian pair.
Adelaide go in unchanged. The 13-man squad from Wednesday’s match will travel across to Perth for the return game.
Last time these sides met was in the opening week of BBL09, when the Strikers claimed a 15-run victory in an 18-over-per-side match under the DLS method.
Adelaide successfully defended 4-198, which included 83 runs off the bat of Jake Weatherald and 55 from Alex Carey. Perth openers Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone each made half-centuries, but international spinner Rashid Khan took three wickets to help Adelaide to their first win of the season.
Prediction
It should be a tight game on Friday evening – a high-scoring one as well, if the matches at Optus Stadium this year are anything to go by.
While Adelaide will want to continue their winning streak, the Scorchers must win to remain on an upward trajectory towards finals.
Scorchers to win.
