The BBL is up and running for another year and we have a feast of T20 cricket coming our way. Tonight, the Perth Scorchers take on the Melbourne Stars at University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 7:15pm (AEDT).

Normal services resume close to Christmas when all teams return to their traditional home grounds. However, for the first fortnight, with the threat of COVID still raising its ugly head from time to time, the BBL is based in Tasmania and ACT. That’s why this game is in Launceston.

The Perth Scorchers will need to improve exponentially if they are to challenge the Stars tonight. The Scorchers’ only game to date has been a loss to the Renegades, and that form doesn’t hold up that well.

On paper, the Scorchers do look like a strong unit. Mitch Marsh and Ashton Turner need to turn starts into big scores while we can also expect Cam Bancroft to get among the runs.

Any attack featuring Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye and Fawad Ahmed should also prove a challenge to score against.

The Melbourne Stars have started their season with two wins, although they don’t really seem to have got out of first gear as yet.

Marcus Stoinis scored 61 against the Thunder and will be dangerous if he maintains that form. Glenn Maxwell has been a little more reserved so far but that only underlines that a match-winning performance is not too far away.

Adam Zampa took 2-10 against the Thunder in his four overs, and looked in total control. Young Liam Hatcher also looks the goods.

Prediction
Tipping early in the season is fraught with danger but you can only go with what you have seen so far.

And what we have seen is a Melbourne Stars team that will again go a long way this season.

I think they will win comfortably.

Stars by 40 runs or five wickets.
