It all comes down to this. In a repeat of last season’s final, the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers are playing for the silverware again, this time at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.40pm (AEDT).

The Scorchers and Sixers have long been the powerhouses of the BBL competition, having won three titles each. One of these teams will go into the overall lead tonight.

The Scorchers beat the Sixers by 48 runs in the qualifier less than a week ago, and the scoreline probably flattered Sydney.

Josh Inglis and Kurtis Patterson took the game away early from Sydney, with Ashton Turner and Colin Munro hardly required. The Scorchers have a long batting line-up, and the Sixers will need to strike early.

The Scorchers bowling attack is the best in the BBL, and they had the Sixers on the rack in the qualifier, having them 6-41 at one stage.

With all their injury concerns before and during the game plus their COVID omissions, the Sixers would have been forgiven for just going through the motions on Australia Day.

It would take a miracle, and Hayden Kerr’s unbeaten 98 was just that. Sean Abbott was key with both the ball and bat and will be primed to do it all again.

The make-up of the Sixers team will be a bit of a mystery until the toss. However, Daniel Hughes is likely to return. Steve Smith has again been discussed and may yet suit up for the Sixers.

Prediction
It’s hard to bet against the Scorchers here. On paper they are the stronger team by a distance. They are also playing on their adopted home ground in Marvel Stadium.

The Sixers culture is first class, and that was underlined again in the win over the Strikers. They will be setting themselves up to cause a boilover in the final.

Unfortunately for Sydney fans, I just can’t see it happening.

Scorchers by 40 runs or five wickets.
