After taking the T20I series over South Africa 2-1, Australia head to Paarl for the ODI part of their tour looking to continue their excellent recent white-ball form. Join The Roar for live scores from 10pm (AEDT).
The Aussies might have defied expectations to make the semi-finals at last year’s ODI World Cup, but it was a loss to the struggling Proteas late in the tournament that proved a crucial blow.
The upset 10-run defeat, thanks to a Faf du Plessis century and 3 key wickets from Kagiso Rabada, saw the Aussies drop to second on the tournament table, setting them up for the final four clash with in-form England that ending in a crushing humiliation.
Even before that, the Aussies’ form against the Proteas in 50-over cricket wasn’t too flash, losing a series 2-1 at home in late 2018.
But the Proteas look a different outfit to the traditionally strong sides of recent years. They’ve been thrashed 3-1 in Tests by England this summer, and were soundly beaten by the Aussies in two of the 3 T20Is. Will their woes extend to a third format as well?
Prediction
Despite a horrific World Cup, the Proteas’ strongest format in recent times has been ODIs, holding reigning world champions England to a 1-1 draw in their most recent series.
But the Aussies are riding high on confidence following their T20 series success, and should continue that form into the longer format.
Join The Roar from 10pm (AEDT) for live scores as we find out who takes out the series.
