India will face a struggling South Africa today in Southampton to begin their assault on the 2019 World Cup. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 7:30pm (AEST).
Having lost the World Cup opener to England, South Africa then went on to lose to Bangladesh on the weekend.
It has been a horrendous start to the tournament for Faf du Plessis’ side, and one could argue that South Africa’s World Cup campaign is already over.
Bangladesh destroyed the South African bowling department, as they scored a total of 330.
Andile Phehlukwayo was the pick of the South African bowlers, as he finished with 2 for 52 off his ten overs. Imran Tahir was also fantastic, as he finished with 2 for 57. Chris Morris picked up two wickets, but he was expensive in doing so.
Du Plessis was the best of the batsmen for South Africa when it came to the run chase, as the captain finished with 62 runs next to his name.
There were plenty of starts for the South African batsmen. Aiden Markram (45), JP Duminy (45), Rassie van der Dussen (41) and David Miller (38) all looked solid, but couldn’t go on with it.
A win is vital for South Africa against India if they wish to have any say in this World Cup. However, it will be difficult to beat a fresh Indian outfit, as they are yet to play a game at the 2019 World Cup.
Virat Kohli will lead a group of men who are hungry for success, and they will ultimately do anything to achieve their dreams. India’s squad possesses everything you need to win this particular World Cup.
It will prove to be such an advantage for India having not played yet, as South Africa have no momentum having lost two games already.
Prediction
India will be fresher and more determined than a wounded South African side. They are in this World Cup to win it.
India to prevail.

Except the first 10 overs of their batting, india didn’t really look much troubled today. They had been playing both tahir and shamsi well in their last 5-6 encounters, so didn’t seem to have any issue playing conservatively against pace, when they could easily take 5 or more an over against the spinners. These kinda small totals are hard to defend against india if one of the top 3 gets going and dhoni coming in next and adding a calmness which makes the result look inevitable. South Africa now needs to win at least 5 of their next 6 matches to stay in contention, though that might more easier said than done.

I honestly did not think it would take this long to chase such a modest total, got little scared after vk got out. Goes to show how rubbish and immature these gossip about blasting 450/500 for fun is. People needs to learn a thing or two abour pressure in such tournament and have respect for opposition. Rabada is one of a kind. Even though I did not like his comment, he showed he is not only talk, but can walk the walk. His first spell even bettered jassi in my opinion given the circumstances. Scorecard does not really tell entire story. From now on, one game at a time , no getting ahead of ourselves.

India have defeated South Africa by six wickets at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Batting first, South Africa were never able to get any momentum going in their innings, which resulted in India restricting them to 9/227 from 50 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 4-51 from his 10 overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar both finished with two wickets each, also. Chris Morris was the best out of the South African batsmen, as he compiled 42 runs from 34 balls, and gave them something to bowl at. Despite the fighting spirit from South Africa with the bat and ball, Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 122 runs, which was the difference between the two sides. India chased the score with 2.3 overs remaining. South Africa - 9/227 India - 4/230 (47.3 overs)
