The first Test between Sri Lanka and Australia resumes for Day 2 at Galle. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 2:30pm AEST.
The visitors had the upper hand for most of Day 1 but the inexplicable run out of Steve Smith means the Test is more 60/40 in Australia’s favour when it should have been 70/30.
Australia is still 114 runs away from Sri Lanka’s first innings total and the first hour will go a long way to determining who holds the ascendancy after the first innings.
Yesterday it was Nathan Lyon’s day with Australia’s greatest off-spinner tweaking his way to an impressive 5 for 90.
He was well supported by Mitchell Swepson who wasn’t overawed with the task of supporting Lyon by taking 3 wickets and getting plenty of rip off the surface which would have made Shane Warne proud.
After witnessing how much the pitch was turning Australia’s response was one of ultra aggression with David Warner going after Sri Lanka’s spinners to try and put them off their game.
He only scored 25 but it was an important cameo in what looks like being a short Test.
Other than being involved in Smith’s run out, Usman Khawaja (47*) hasn’t put a foot wrong and another Test century is looming.
Any lead on this pitch will be gold and will be the key to victory.
