Having safely qualified for the group stage of the T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will hope to continue their strong form when they lock horns in Sharjah. Join The Roar for live scores from 9pm (AEDT).

Bangladesh’s shock loss to Scotland in their first qualifying game has seen them land in the same group as fellow Full Member nation Sri Lanka, making their task of pushing for a semi-final berth all the more challenging. Twin victories over Oman and Papua New Guinea, the latter by a whopping 84 runs, saw the Tigers make it through to the group stage, but they’re hardly in the sort of form that will have their opponents trembling in fear.

Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has once again been Bangladesh’s brightest star, showing form with bat and ball equal to his heroics in the 2019 ODI World Cup. He took nine wickets in the three qualifying games at just six runs apiece, including 4/9 against PNG. He’s also scored 108 runs with the bat to be a steadying influence in the middle order. For Bangladesh to have any chance of a miraculous semi-final run, Shakib will have to lead the way.

Sri Lanka had no such qualifying difficulties, breezing through their three matches with the greatest of ease to reach the group stage as a serious dark horse for a deep run in the tournament. Bolstered by an array of canny spinners led by Wanindu Hasaranga, they dealt with Namibia, thumped Ireland and humiliated the Netherlands for 44 all out. With a net run rate of nearly 3 whole points higher than the next-best Scotland from the eight qualifiers, there’s no question the island nation are going to be tough to beat for even non-Associate teams.
