India will be out to finish their preparations for the Cricket World Cup semi-finals and stay in with a shot at claiming first place when they take on Sri Lanka at Headingley on the final day of the round-robin. Join The Roar for live scores and updates of all the action from 7:30pm (AEST).
As it stands, India will need to win and hope Australia lose their match later today against South Africa if they are to finish at the top of the table.
Their strange loss to England earlier in the week has put them a point behind thanks to the washout they head earlier in the tournament, and in a twist of irony, should they finish second, it’ll be England they have to face in Edgbaston during the second semi-final next Tuesday.
The advantage to finishing first is playing New Zealand, who are clearly the weakest side in the top four, while England only need to click for 50 overs to take a game well beyond their opponents.
But back to today’s game, and India will more than likely just stick to the tried and trusted methods of getting past opposition teams, using Jasprit Bumrah up front with the ball, their strong spinning combination through the middle, and a well constructed batting innings, led by Virat Kohli at first drop, to get the job done.
They take on a Sri Lankan side who are out of contention, and while they did produce the moment of the tournament with a stunning victory over England during the fourth week of action, they have been more or less as expected.
A couple of strong performances on an individual level have kept it interesting, but they have struggled to put up a good team performance on a consistent basis, and that struggle isn’t going to get any easier as they take on the top team in the world, according to the rankings before the Cup.
Prediction
India are the better team on paper and in practice, and will win this game, before sitting around to find out where their semi-final will be.
India in a canter.

Rohit and Rahul - Rohit in particular - really making a statement here. While Rahul is 42 off 61, Rohit has danced along to 66 off 59 balls. A couple of sixes, and the Sri Lankan bowlers are getting shelled. Over: 20 India: 0/109
