The winner of Group A of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 could well be decided when Sri Lanka take on Ireland in what should be a thrilling match. Join The Roar for live scores from 1am (AEDT).
Sri Lanka will know that they are in for a much tougher test than Namibia presented in their opening match. The Sri Lankan bowlers did a good job of tying down their opposition, with Maheesh Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara and Wanindu Hasaranga all getting wickets and bowling well.
There was a slight wobble early on in their run chase when they slipped to 3/26, but Sri Lanka will be happy with the seven-wicket win and the start to their World Cup. Against Ireland they will need to do the same again but just a bit tighter.
Skipper Dasun Shanaka will rely upon his spinners to keep the Irish batsmen quiet knowing they are more comfortable against pace. Shanaka will back his batsmen to score over 150 against the Irish bowlers.
The Irish will be full of confidence though and will know that another strong performance will likely book them a spot in the Super 12 – something that many thought was beyond them.
All eyes will be on Curtis Campher – his four wickets in four balls ripped the heart out of the Dutch middle order in their opening match and made it practically impossible for the Netherlands to post any sort of decent score.
Ireland will need another one of their players, if not a few, to have big games to claim a second win. Their memorable win against the Netherlands was down to individual talent but if they want to go further then they need their whole team performing.
