Group A of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 continues as former champions Sri Lanka take on debutants Namibia in what will be a one sided affair. Join The Roar for live scores from 1:00am (AEDT).

It seems strange to be talking about Sri Lanka’s chances of qualifying from the Group Stages of a T20 World Cup. They have such a strong heritage in the tournament, finishing runners-up in 2009 and 2012 before then winning the whole thing in 2014.

They are in the Group stages because of some indifferent form over the past few years. Coming into the World Cup they have maintained this up and down nature with a great win over India 2-1 in July but series losses to England and South Africa.

They are full of talent with leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga ranked as the second best bowler in the world in the T20 format likely to play a big role.

For Namibia, this World Cup is the reward for a lot of hard work in the qualifiers. They initially struggled in the qualification tournament as they lost to the Dutch and PNG. But they then went on a rampage and won five in a row.

Captain Gerhard Erasmus is very important to his team in so many ways – his leadership, his fielding and also his prowess with the bat. He can play the anchor role when needed but is most dangerous when he opens up his shoulders and starts swinging for the fences. Singapore can attest to this – Erasmus plundered one over against them for 29 including four sixes.

It’s unlikely that Namibia will make it through to the Super 12s but this lack of pressure might just free them up to trouble some of the other sides and they could even pick up a win over a poor Irish side.
