The Harbour City hosts a fascinating Big Bash local derby as the Sydney Sixers play the Sydney Thunder. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 7:10pm (AEDT).
The Thunder come into tonight’s contest well rested following an enforced draw against the Adelaide Strikers because of smoky conditions in Canberra a few days ago.
That draw leaves the Thunder undefeated thus far in BBL09, with two good wins against the Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades.
The Sixers meanwhile are 2-2 to start the season, and return to Sydney full of confidence following a great win against the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium.
The Sixers managed to restrict the Scorchers to less than 130 runs courtesy of a fine effort from bowlers such as Jack Bird and Sean Abbott, who each took three wickets. Both bowlers will play a vital role again as they attempt to thwart the form of the Thunder’s dangerous batsmen.
The Thunder’s line-up is well balanced with Usman Khawaja and Callum Ferguson in pretty good form. Ferguson in particular raced to 27 not out against Adelaide before play was cancelled in Canberra. He will be keen to build on that foundation against the Sixers tonight.
In regards to the Thunder bowling attack, Daniel Sams comes into tonight’s contest in good form, finishing with figures of 2/21 against Adelaide and will be the man the Thunder rely on to keep the Sixers run rate under control.
Prediction
Despite coming off a tough match in Perth just a couple of days ago, the win against the Scorchers should leave the Sixers full of confidence against a well rested opponent. While the Thunder are in good form, the Sixers are ready to cause the upset and give their season a further boost.
Sixers to win.
Can the Sixers cause the upset or will the Thunder continue their unbeaten run in BBL09? Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 7:10pm (AEDT).
