Match preview:

The Sydney Sixers and the Sydney Thunder meet at the Sydney Cricket Ground in a crucial Big Bash fixture for both teams. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7pm (AEDT).

The Big Bash doesn’t get any better than the Sydney Smash and tonight could be an explosive version of it; with both sides desperate for a win to edge ever closer to a finals berth.

The Sydney Sixers have continued to firm as semi-final participants and go into this match knowing that a win tonight seals the deal.

The Thunder are also a chance for finals play, but will need to win their remaining matches, and hope for a little help elsewhere, if they are to move into the knockout phase of the tournament.

Last time out, the Thunder found little with the bat, falling to the Renegades and managing just 113 runs while chasing a moderate 140.

The top order failed to fire bar Callum Ferguson and if not for the exciting newcomer Baxter Holt, their total may have been below three figures.

The Sixers have been on a steady incline and look to have momentum on their side.

Daniel Hughes and Moises Henriques guided them to a comfortable eight-wicket win against the Strikers last Tuesday, in a match that they controlled for the entire night.

Shane Watson and Ferguson will once again be key for the Thunder up top and Daniel Hughes is edging closer to 300 runs for the tournament; emphasising his value.

Sean Abbott and Steve O’Keefe have 35 wickets between them and loom as major obstacles to the Thunder finding enough runs to trouble the Sixers.

The men in green will be looking towards Jono Cook and Daniel Sams to lead the way with the ball in what is a must-win clash for the Thunder.

There is zero scope for a slow start in this one, with both sides sure to attack from ball one in an effort to stamp their authority over this match and the City.

Prediction
It looks a battle between the crafty bowling of the Sixers and the hit and miss top order of the Thunder to decide this clash.

The Sixers should be able to clamp down and restrict the Thunder with the ball to allow their top order to manage a total if chasing.

If the Sixers bat first, they may build a score that is just beyond the reach of their cross-city rivals.
