Match result:

Final score
Sydney Thunder 6/168
Adelaide Stirkers 97

Match preview:

In the first game of a BBL|08 triple header on Sunday, the Sydney Thunder will host the Adelaide Strikers at Spotless Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting at 2:45pm AEDT.

There was plenty of rain at Spotless Stadium on Tuesday night when the Sydney Thunder lost to the Brisbane Heat by 15 runs (DLS Method).

Only 5.3 overs were bowled in the Thunder’s chase, but it was enough to help the Heat to their second win of the season.

Jono Cook was back taking big wickets (3/27) and Fawad Ahmed chipped in with two wickets as well.

On Friday night, the depleted Adelaide Strikers faced off against an equally depleted Melbourne Stars outfit at the Adelaide Oval.

The depth of the Strikers’ line-up ably assisted the more experienced players to achieve a 41-run victory over the Stars.

Ingram again fired with the bat (57 off 41), while Travis Head connected bat with ball for three sixes in a row and brought up 43 off 31 balls.

In team news, freshly acquired internationals Chris Jordan (England) and Anton Devcich (New Zealand) will make their debut for the Thunder, replacing England’s Joe Root and Jos Buttler.

Jay Lenton is set to play his first game of the season as wicket-keeper/batsman, with Buttler now headed, with his English teammates, to tour the West Indies.

The Strikers regain paceman Billy Stanlake, who was left out of the Australian ODI squad on Saturday. Wes Agar loses his place in the squad to make way for Stanlake.

Adelaide are still without opening batsman and wicket-keeper Alex Carey, and bowler Peter Siddle, who remain in the Australian ODI squad.

Adelaide lead the head to head with Sydney six to three, their wins including the past four outings between the sides.

The most recent clash between the Thunder and the Strikers was at the Adelaide Oval on New Year’s Eve.

It was a 20-run victory for the Strikers, who put together a 175-run total and then took big wickets to slow the Thunder’s scoring.

Colin Ingram fired with 75 off 43 balls and bowlers Peter Siddle (3/20) and Rashid Khan (2/34) helped Adelaide to continue their New Year’s Eve success.

Can Shane Watson kick his BBL season into gear with a big total, or will the Strikers continue in their winning ways and dominate with both bat and ball.

Prediction
Despite losing some experience and firepower, the Strikers proved they’ve got the depth to continue their fine BBL form.

Strikers to notch up a win away from home.
