It’s knockout time in the Big Bash League as the Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat face off in the Eliminator at Sydney Showground Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:15pm (AEDT).

The Thunder have been so underwhelming with the bat this season, one does wonder how batting coach Chandika Hathurasingha will be able to extend his tenure as the team’s batting coach.

They have a concerning overreliance on the lower-middle order, especially Oliver Davies, to get the job done in run chases. The bowling attack, however, has fired most times, and will be looking toward the likes of Usman Qadir and Gurinder Sandhu to strike early.

The Heat were struggling for most of the season, but they have won four of their past five matches which confirmed their spot int the finals. A lot of this has been due to the addition of former Queensland teen prodigy turned England cricketer Sam Hain.

Hain has provided stability to the Heat middle order; however, they could get more out of him if he batted at three while Marnus Labuschagne is demoted as a floater.

On the bowling side of things, the Heat will be relying upon Michael Neser to deliver with the new ball and Spencer Johnson to spark fear in the Thunder batters with his raw pace.

Prediction

Both sides have struggled with the bat this tournament, but the Thunder have won both matches against the Heat this season.

However, momentum is on the Heat’s side as of late, which is massive in T20 knockout matches.

Heat to win in a last-over thriller.

Tomorrow is the first qualifier between the Scorchers and Sixers - which will be called by Pravin Manivannan. The Scorchers will not have Ashton Agar as he’s on a Test camp preparing for the India series while Jhye Richardson and Matt Kelly will miss the game due to injury. Can the Sixers sneak in a win tomorrow? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see. I’m now off to watch the first ODI between South Africa and England. Thank you all for joining. Till then, take care and goodnight
