Sydney Thunder will look to make their way into the top four of the competition when they take the Melbourne Renegades to Manuka Oval in Canberra for the first of two BBL matches tonight. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 6:10pm (AEDT).
The Thunder chased down Hobart in a close-run encounter last time out at Spotless Stadium. Set a target of 163, they got off to a good start with openers Usman Khawaja and Alex Hales.
A bit of a collapse ensued, with Callum Ferguson, Matthew Gilkes and Daniel Sams all falling cheaply, but 35 from Khawaja, 55 from Hales, 32 from Alex Ross and 17 from Chris Morris were enough to reach the target.
The Renegades’ last match was their ninth loss of the season, beaten soundly by Adelaide. The Strikers’ score of 6-173 proved much too tall for the Renegades, who were all out for 110. Shaun Marsh and Beau Webster were the only batsmen to reach double figures, scoring 21 and 49 respectively.
Despite the 0-9 record, Renegades have two batsmen in the top five run scorers across the BBL: Marsh with 319 and Webster with 311. For context, the outright top scorer – Melbourne Stars’ Marcus Stoinis – sits over 100 runs above anyone else on 478.
The Thunder have made two changes to their squad, with keeper Matthew Gilkes and paceman Chris Tremain coming out for Jay Lenton and Nathan McAndrew. Gurinder Sandhu also comes into the extended side.
The Rengades just make one move, with bowler Andrew Fekete coming to replace all-rounder Nathan McSweeney.
Prediction
Do The Renegades go 0-10? It is very possible. Their bowlers have been their main weakness and their batting line-up has been reliant on two players. The Thunder, meanwhile, have been bowling well, so one key wicket could be all they need.
Follow all the action on The Roar, with coverage starting at 6:10pm (AEDT).
First ball: 6:10pm (AEDT)
