The Sydney Sixers can land a big blow to the Sydney Thunder‘s Big Bash campaign when the rivals meet this evening. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:10pm (AEDT).

After a positive start to the season, the Thunder have gone quiet. Just one win from their past four matches has seen them slide to sixth on the BBL ladder and the room for error gets smaller and smaller.

The Sixers, on the other hand, are moving nicely in the right direction, earning six wins from ten matches. Their most recent contest against the Hobart Hurricanes was abandoned so they should be fresh for tonight’s match.

Overall, the Sixers have won three of their past five matches, with their most recent defeat coming at the hands of the ladder leading Melbourne Stars – no shame given how well the Stars are performing.

The Thunder in contrast became the first team this season to lose to the Melbourne Renegades, and another defeat here could spell doom for their BBL09 hopes.

If the last contest between these two teams is anything to go by, we should be in for an absolute treat. The Sixers defeated the Thunder in the super over, with a great knock from Moises Henriques getting the Sixers over the line in an epic contest last December.

If Henriques can offer a repeat of his great performance on that particular occasion, the Sixers are on course to do the double over the Thunder this evening.

Usman Khawaja, meanwhile, finished with a duck in his most recent effort against the Renegades, and needs a big score here to guide the Thunder to a much needed victory.

Prediction
The Sixers are well on course to launch a tilt at BBL09 with a good performance today. The Thunder are in a poor form, but it only takes one brilliant knock from Khawaja or a Callum Ferguson to get the ship moving in the right direction. Rain could also be a big issue today but all things considered, the Sixers should be favoured to win.

Sixers to win.

The Thunder have won a rain interrupted Sydney Bash against the Sixers, winning by 4 runs here after bowling out the Sixers for less than 80 runs in 16 overs. The Thunder attack did its job and the most of a chaotic wicket to roll the Sixers for a very modest total. The Thunder get a much needed win in the process and hopefully for their sake that kickstarts their season. That concludes the Big Bash coverage for today with the Stars and Thunder emerging victorious :)
