Show Preview

The Sydney derby will be the eighth game of the Big Bash League this season, with the Sydney Showground Stadium in Sydney to be the host of this encounter. The eighth match of the tournament will begin at 7:15pm AEDT and you can follow it live with The Roar below.

It’s an early chance for both teams to go two in two matches after having started off with a win apiece.

The Sixers were 17-run winners over the multiple-time champions Perth Scorchers, while a rain-affected game saw the Thunder beat Melbourne Stars by 15 runs.

For Sydney Sixers, it was down to their middle-order to perform the rescue act after Joe Denly and Jack Edwards had fallen cheaply.

It took 60s from Daniel Hughes and Jordan Silk to propel them to what looked like a fighting score of 4/164 from their 20 overs against Perth.

The pair was involved in a 124-run stand, one broken only in the final over having come together in the Powerplay.

Once they had got to that total, it was down to the experienced duo of Steve O’Keefe (3/19) and Sean Abbott (3/29) to break the Scorchers back.

What was interesting to watch was that the spin of O’Keefe grabbed the first three wickets while Abbott returned to knock the middle-order out.

Despite Ashton Turner and Hilton Cartwright’s 99-run stand, the Sixers bowling persisted with their plans and got the better of Perth.

Sydney Thunder deserved the luck that came their way after their game was hit by rain. They raked up 5/181 in their 20 overs despite the start they got – they were three down in the eighth over for 59.

All of Shane Watson, Jos Buttler and Callum Ferguson, three top batsmen in this format, had returned back to the dugout by this time.

It was left to the classy-looking Jason Sangha to bail them out of trouble in the company of the hard-hitting Daniel Sams.

Sangha made an unbeaten 63, and while Sams was given let-offs on multiple occasions, he made full use of them to smash a 21-ball 34.

This was followed by Sams picking up a three-fer while Sam Rainbird and Chris Green conceded six apiece in the one over their bowled in a rain-shortened game.

It will be interesting to see how they go about their business in a full game.

In the 13 games played between these two sides, the Sydney Sixers have won nine and lost just four of them.

Interestingly, the Sixers have won their previous five matches against the Thunder and will look to make it their sixth in a row.

Prediction
Sydney Sixers should out-bowl the Thunder and win this one.
