England’s second innings will resume at 4/96 on Day 5 at Lord’s, as they look to bat Australia out of the game. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the day, starting from 8pm (AEST).

Australia resumed 4/80 on Day 4 looking to pass England’s first innings total of 258, with Steve Smith (13 not out) and Matthew Wade (zero not out) at the crease.

The day started well for England, as Stuart Broad found the edge of Wade’s bat, which saw him dismissed for six, as Rory Burns took the catch at gully.

Tim Paine joined Smith at the crease, and both of Australia’s leaders were able to steady the ship. Smith brought up his half-century just before lunch, which meant Australia were sitting 5/155 at the main break.

When play resumed after lunch, Jofra Archer dismissed Paine for 23, as the Australian captain was caught by Jos Buttler at short leg.

Shortly after, Smith took a blow to the arm off Archer, but he continued his innings and showed superb mental strength.

However, he copped another short ball from Archer, which hit him on the neck, and that forced him off the pitch due to the severity of the blow. He was 80 not out.

Peter Siddle came to the crease and batted some time, but he could only manage nine runs in his innings, as Chris Woakes found the outside edge of his bat to dismiss him, and Jonny Bairstow took the catch.

Smith returned to the arena, but he was dismissed pretty quickly, as he left a straight delivery off Woakes, which meant he was deemed lbw for a superb 92.

Nathan Lyon managed to score six runs in his innings before Jack Leach dismissed him lbw. Patrick Cummins was the final wicket to fall, as Broad and Bairstow combined.

Australia were dismissed for 250 just as tea arrived, which meant they fell eight runs short of England’s first innings total. Broad was the pick of England’s bowlers, as he finished with four wickets.

Woakes and Archer picked up five wickets between them. Leach finished with one scalp next to his name.

England’s second innings got off to a horrendous start after tea, as Jason Roy, who was dismissed for two, was caught and bowled by Cummins.

Joe Root quickly followed the next ball, as Cummins found his outside edge, and Paine completed the catch. A Cummins hat-trick did not eventuate, however.

Joe Denly and Burns showed some fight, but Denly was dismissed for 26, as Siddle took a catch off his own bowling.

Siddle struck again shortly after, as he found the outside edge of Burns’ bat, and the opener was dismissed for 29, as Paine took the catch. Ben Stokes (16 not out) and Buttler (10 not out) are currently at the crease.

England finished the day 4/96, with a lead of 104 runs. This Test match is likely to end in a draw unless some sort of miracle occurs.

However, if there is to be a winner, Australia have somewhat put themselves in a position to claim a victory.

Taking four English wickets in the final session yesterday means they are a chance, but they would have to take some early wickets on Day 5.

If England bat time and get some runs in doing so, Australia just would not have the time to score the runs required for victory if they were to bat again.

The weather is decent for Day 5, also. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 8pm (AEST).
