Already in dire trouble, the West Indies and Bangladesh both need nothing less than a win to have any hope of progressing to the T20 cricket World Cup semi-finals. Join The Roar for live scores from 9pm (AEDT).
Both sides head into this crunch clash in Sharjah having lost both their previous group stage games. The Windies were flattened by England in their opener, humiliatingly bowled out for 55, before losing to a South Africa side rife with off-field turmoil. The reigning T20 champions are now in serious danger of having their title defence ended at the earliest possible opportunity.
With the amount of power hitters in the Windies’ line-up, opener Lendl Simmons’ bizarre go-slow against the Proteas, scoring just 16 from 35 balls, has caused plenty of consternation. Don’t be surprised to see him make way for all-rounder Roston Chase, which would allow Chris Gayle, perhaps the greatest T20 batsmen of them all, to shift up to his customary opening spot.
Bangladesh’s failures haven’t been quite so spectacular this tournament, but they too were comfortably dealt with by England, having thrown away a strong position in their first group stage game against fellow qualifier Sri Lanka. Despite some favourable conditions for their experienced batsmen and host of spinners, the Tigers haven’t put their best foot forward so far this tournament, and now find themselves on the edge of the cliff. Lose today, and their chances of a semi-final run will officially be put to bed.
