Dean Jones becomes emotional discussing his player's sick daughter
Australian cricket champion Dean Jones has revealed the background to a fiery exchange he had previously had with a reporter about the role of one of his players in the Pakistan Super League.
Speaking at a recent press conference Jones, who coaches Islamabad United, became emotional as he explained middle-order batsman Asif Ali’s young daughter was “very sick”. She was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Earlier in the tournament following a loss, Jones had hit back at a journalist who claimed Ali was an issue for the team given he’s a “a good smasher but not a good finisher”, telling him during a lengthy retort, “You have no idea, do you?”
Ali later helped get his side into the second eliminator match of the finals with an unbeaten 10-ball knock of 24, before they were knocked out.
Thank you to all @IsbUnited fans for backing us. We are disappointed that we didn’t go all the way. A special mention for @AasifAli2018, who was our star despite his daughter being ill. May she get well soon.

The 27-year-old’s teammates, including captain Muhammad Sami, tweeted their support of Ali and his family.
Sorry @AasifAli2018 bhai. We wanted to win this season for you and your daughter. Congratulations to Zalmi & Gladiators on reaching the final. @IsbUnited will bounce back stronger next season.
