Finch admits Australia were 'totally outplayed', defends Maxwell

Aaron Finch says the Australian team has come a long way in the last 12 months despite bowing out of the World Cup following their eight-wicket defeat at the hands of England.

The ODI skipper admitted the Aussies were “totally outplayed” as they were bowled out for just 223 and fell one short of completing their overs after winning the toss and electing to bat first at Egdbaston.

A fine opening stand of 124 from England openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow saw the home side take full control of the match, with Roy feasting on the Australian bowling attack, blasting 85 from 65 deliveries.

However, Finch says he remains “proud” of what the Australians have been able to produce across the whole tournament considering some of the low points of where the team has been over the last year.
