'Most of Australia hate me': Marsh's response to selection backlash
Mitchell Marsh’s return to Test cricket wasn’t welcomed by everyone when first announced, but the all-rounder helped the visitors fight back on the opening day at the Oval.
With the Australians citing a high workload for the bowlers over the first four Tests, Travis Head was left out of the side so Marsh could be brought back to provide some much-needed support for the pacemen.
However he would do more than that on Day 1, being the most dangerous of Tim Paine’s bowlers as he picked up what is currently a career-best 4/35 to help Australia wrestle back the momentum after opting to bowl first.
Speaking after the day’s play, Marsh was asked about how he seems to “divide opinions in Australia” and gave a brutally honest response as he declared he hopes he can win the respect of fans through the way he continues trying to prove himself at the top level after setbacks.
