WATCH: David Warner sends the selectors a message with blistering 85 on IPL return

David Warner has given his World Cup chances a boost with a brilliant knock in his first game of the 2019 IPL season.

The Sunrises Hyderabad batsman showed no signs of rust in his first professional knock since an elbow injury sustained playing in the Bangladesh Premier League earlier this year, blasting a 53-ball 85 against Chris Lynn’s Kolkata Knight Riders.

Warner, who was given a second life on 68 by Knight Riders wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, combined with Englishman Jonny Bairstow in an opening partnership worth 118.

The left-hander looked as if he might be headed for the seventh T20 century of his career, before he was superbly caught by Robin Uthappa off the bowling of Andre Russell in the 16th over of the innings.

Warner will hope that a strong IPL campaign can be enough to convince Justin Langer and the Australian selectors to bring him into the ODI side for the upcoming World Cup in England.

The 32-year-old’s ban resulting from the ball tampering scandal will lapse later this month.
