Australia’s David Warner was struck in the ribs early on Day 2 by Ben Stokes and was left in visible discomfort.
Warner, who was playing without a chest guard at the time, carried on to post 94 runs but the aftermath of that hit kept him out of the field for England’s second innings.
Cricket Australia reported that the Aussie opener has been cleared of any fractures but is dealing with severely bruised ribs.
Replacement fielder Jhye Richardson took his place out in the Gabba outfield but it is unclear if, or when, Warner will return this Test.
