It’s a mouth-watering Sydney derby to close out the Rocket League season, as the Sydney Chiefs and Sydney Roar go head-to-head in the Gfinity Elite Series Season 2 grand final.
While the two teams competing today may hail from the same city, their storylines couldn’t be any more different heading into the decider.
For the Roar, this is a young team’s chance to prove once and for all they belong on the Gfinity stage.
They endured a miserable debut season earlier this year, but have turned it around in a big way this campaign and are now just one win away from tasting the most unlikely of successes.
They’ll be further buoyed by their decisive 3-0 victory over their more-heralded crosstown rivals just a few weeks ago.
For the Chiefs, the seven-week long quest for redemption is finally at a close.
Last season, they were viewed as the shortest-odds favourite in any of the three Elite Series tournaments, but suffered one of the most stunning upsets in esports history in the semi-finals.
They haven’t dominated the regular season like they did last time, but if they can hold that coveted trophy aloft, that won’t matter one bit.
