The halfway point of the Gfinity Elite Series is here already, as Week 3 gets started at 3pm (AEDT) today. The competition’s six sides will be battling it out in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Despite the fact we’ll be past the halfway point of the season at the end of today, Week 2 wasn’t exactly helpful in terms of helping us identify the contenders.

We didn’t have the same horrifying demolitions of a week ago, but Melbourne Avant were able to send the Sydney Chiefs to the bottom of the ladder with a convincing 16-8 win.

Sydney Roar rebounded strongly from an embarrassing Week 1 loss, coming from behind to take care of Perth Ground Zero 16-9, while Melbourne Order were pushed all the way to extra rounds by the Brisbane Deceptors before pulling off a memorable 22-20 win.

This week will prove crucial. For those atop the standings, now’s the time to cement their status as playoff contenders – while it’s now or never for the sides bringing up the rear.

The latter sentiment rings truest in the opening match of the day, with the winless Deceptors and Chiefs battling it out in a deceptively important game.

Brisbane have been vastly improved this season and are desperately unlucky to still be winless. A win here could kickstart a fairytale finals run, but a loss would probably make the hill too steep to climb.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, have been punished for playing an understrength line-up so far. They’ll be a force once their starters return, but would 0-3 be too deep of a hole to climb out of?

The second match will prove interesting too, with Order’s reserve line-up clashing with a Perth side that looks to have regained some top players. A Ground Zero win here could upset the apple cart in a big way.

Lastly, it’ll be the match of the round, as the undefeated Avant take on a resurgent Roar side. Roar’s captain topguN said he expected to win this clash, which will likely decide who takes the fourth finals spot.

It’s going to be a pivotal day of CS:GO action, join us from 3pm to catch it live.
