Sydney looked destined to repeat as champions with a blisteringly dominant 20-win season that saw them finish in first place by 14 points. Their season came to a heartbreaking end in the semi-finals, however, with a 3-2 extra time loss to traditional rivals Melbourne Victory.

Despite losing coach Graham Arnold to Socceroos duty, incoming coach Steve Corica is predicted to guide the Sky Blues to another top finish and strong crack at the championship.
