The first match of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup kicked off at 5pm (AEST) on Thursday, July 20 , 2023, and finished with the final at 8pm (AEST) on Sunday, August 20 .
Held in Australia and New Zealand, the fixtures were drawn on 22nd October, 2022, where 32 qualifiers were divided into their groups.
Spain emerged as champions for the first time after defeating England 1-0 in the final, while the Matildas reached the semi-finals before losing both that game to England 3-1 and then the third place play-off 2-0 to Sweden.
The World Cup sees the 32 teams divided into eight groups of four, with each side playing a match against the other three opponents in their group.
The top two teams from each of the eight groups at the end of the first stage will advance to the Round of 16.
From there, it’s straight knockout – eight winners advancing to the quarter-finals, then the four winners to the semi-finals, before the final.
Please note all times are in Australian Eastern Standard Time, which will be two hours behind the local New Zealand time for matches played there.
