Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United meet in one of the traditional rivalries of the A-League. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:50pm (AEDT).

After finally notching the win they had been hunting over a period of weeks, Victory showed some attacking form with their three goals against the disappointing Phoenix in the second half in Wellington.

It was refreshing for the Victory faithful and at two goals down at the break, it looked like any chance of a finals spot at the top end of the six was almost gone.

To their credit, they found a way to dig themselves out of the whole and with the complexities and closeness of the competition, somehow found their way into the six.

Adelaide continue to play excellent football without being able to take their chances and finish off games as they should.

Last week’s loss to Sydney was another good example of the Reds not getting every last drop from the well.

They create many chances in front of goal and if their front men continue to develop and start putting away those chances, they are a real threat in this competition.

It is fifth versus sixth in this clash and with three teams all within three points hot on their heels, a loss here would probably see one of these teams fall from the top six.

Mark Milligan is an important in for the Victory, as are Michael Marrone and Ben Garrucio for Adelaide.

The best question here will be the quality of the win last week for Victory. It will be perceived as a return to their former selves or a great escape against the team running bottom. Personally, I think they are back. To some extent.

Melbourne Victory 2, Adelaide United 0.

Good to see Adelaide held their composure in light of the refereeing. Showed a bit of class there (though Kurz certainly released some emotion!).

Tough way to win a game however it is good to see both strikers on the sheet. A superb game from Isiais, Izzo and Elsey.

Squad depth continues to be tested with another two out for next week!

In a stunning game where Adelaide United finished with nine men, the Melbourne Victory have lost another game at home and the Reds climb further up the ladder.
In something of a dour first half where Baba Diawara scored early and the game became scruffy and disjointed for much of the first period, the Victory had a little more of the ball yet did little with it.
A penalty to Victory was wasted by Berisha and they went to the break as frustrated as they have been throughout the entire season.
After half-time things really opened up and with the equalising goal coming from Socceroo Mark Milligan it really looked like the Victory might run over the top of the Reds in the second period.
However, the Reds held firm and found a way to create another goal through George Blackwood on the end of a Mileusnic pass and Adelaide looked home.
Then the chaos began. Yellow cards to Garuccio and Adlung led to reds for both players and Adelaide were forced to battle on with nine men for the last ten minutes.
Victory will lament lost chances yet also need to realise that they were beaten by a better team tonight. Marco Kurz will celebrate with his team tonight and the Reds look a force this season.

        Well done Adelaide

Melbourne Victory are toothless in attack for most of the game .

Muscat should be sacked before it gets too far gone for them
