King of the mountain: Shane van Gisbergen wins Bathurst 1000 after years of heartbreak

After years of heartache, Shane van Gisbergen has finally taken out the Bathurst 1000, narrowly edging Cameron Waters to win a thrilling race and claim the Peter Brock Trophy for 2020.

The New Zealander had come agonisingly close to the title in finishing second in both 2016 and 2019, but held his nerve in a frantic finish to finally claim the most coveted gong in Australian Supercars.

Van Gisbergen’s win is a fitting final bow for Holden in their final ever Supercars race.

Ford and impressive rising star Waters came in a close second, while Chaz Mostert also finished on the podium for Walkinshaw Andretti United.
