Australia’s record eighteenth gold medal still eludes them after falling agonisingly short in multiple team sports over the past few days of the Tokyo Olympics. But Day 15 brings a fresh set of golden opportunities for our Aussies.

First off, Australia’s Sinead Diver, Lisa Weightman and Ellie Pashley pound the pavement in the women’s marathon final.

As that gruelling event is underway, Aussie Hannah Green will tee off in pursuit of an unlikely gold medal in the women’s golf. USA’s Nelly Korda will start the fourth and final round leading at 15-under but Green could make a run for the gold after a four-under-par round yesterday has her in third spot at -10. Fellow Australian Minjee Lee sits a fair way back at one-under.

Meanwhile, Aussie diver Cassiel Rousseau is gunning for a place in the decider in the men’s 10m platform dive.

While the Boomers didn’t get the result they wanted against USA, who compete in the gold medal game at 12:30pm AEST, their hopes of a first-ever Olympic men’s basketball medal is still alive tonight. They take on Slovenia and NBA All-star Luka Doncic, who may be hampered in some capacity after a wrist injury in their semi-final limited his shooting capacity down the stretch. Doncic is also the competition’s leading scorer.

Meanwhile in the track and field, Nicola McDermott and Eleanor Patterson are in action for the Aussies in the women’s high jump final. McDermott’s season-best of 2.01m has her in good position to medal as only two other competitors have produced better.

Then, it’s Oliver Hoare and Stewart McSweyn’s turn out on the track in the men’s 1500m final. McSweyn led for much of his semi-final but fell off late to finish fifth. Can he lift and reach the podium?

Elsewhere for the Australian Olympic Team, both the men’s and women’s K4 500m semi-finals begin just before midday. In addition, Edward Fernon gets going in the modern pentathlon which comes to a head in the laser run final this evening.

Also this evening, there’s a raft of exciting athletics finals in the last day of action for the track and field – excluding the men’s marathon tomorrow morning.

There are huge finals in the men’s javelin throw and women’s 10,000m. Then, the women’s 4x400m relay and men’s 4x400m relay final cap off the night’s action.

Throughout the day, there are also gold medals on offer in the men’s beach volleyball, handball and volleyball as well as the women’s water polo.
