I’m back. All it took was a noted dry-tracking back marker to lead and win in the slop.

I’ll take it, thank you Witherspoon. It doesn’t happen very often, but it happens!

So onto this week, hoping to end up on the right side of the overall picture for the first time in a long time, and I’ve been greeted by a very tricky meeting on a heavy track as we return to Rosehill.

Dixie’s 2020 tally
Units bet: 187
Units won: 185.80
Based on one unit being equal to $1 win bet, New South Wales dividends (see comments for any changes based on scratchings or track condition).

Race 2 – 2 Ready to Humble (one unit)
I’m happy to take the relative shorts with the likely leader Ready to Humble. He carries weight well and his slow track form is fine. There doesn’t look to be much speed. I’m hoping Hugh Bowman can control things considering it’s his first go at 1400. Leg work will run on and has the heavy win. Some funny nominations for a Highway including Havaduel and Acquittal, both first-up, interesting.

Race 3 – 7 Hulk (one unit)
I’m quite keen on Hulk. He was excellent fresh breaking his duck, and I think he can go on with it here. He gets a nice little weight drop and doesn’t find any world beaters. L’Cosmo runs second a lot. This could be her day but I’m happy to take her on with her record. The runner of interest for me is Atlantic King, who pops down from Matt Dunn’s stable on the far north coast for this, when the Queensland carnival was a shorter drive. Is he on his way there? His best form last prep puts him right in the mix.

Race 4 – 1 Articus (one unit)
I struggled with this one, but I landed with the topweight. I like the weight drop with the in-form apprentice and think he’s about (over) due. I’m happy to take on Soldier of Love – no massive knock but short enough. Across Dubai (ironically) has his first go in Oz after running in the UK. I think he finds a winnable race here if ready, although 2000 metres is likely more his go.

Race 5 – 1 Noble Boy (one unit)
A very unusual move for me taking another toppy. Day’s claim is again the decisive factor. He’s raced against much better horses than these (Quackerjack, Mister Sea Wolf), he’s five from seven at the trip and unbeaten on slow and heavy. Will do me! Fituese is the real deal, but against older horses here I’ll give her a miss. Sandbar and Improvement get their chance.

Race 6 – 9 Riva Capri (one unit)
Okay, back to my happy place. Riva Capri drops 4.5 kilos into this, the last start at Kenso was good enough and was group racing across the ditch. Plenty of horses rate positively here, Bound to Win, Feather and Miss Redoble among them. Miss Einstein? I promised to give her a miss after she’s broken my heart twice. A win now would hurt, make no mistake.

Race 7 – 18 Bottega (three units)
What a lovely race Bottega finds here. I’m loading up here. Heavy track is a yes, the weight drop is a tick, and the trip is fine. Slight knock Kinane getting done last week but I can excuse on pattern and the ride (eek). Rapido Chaparro rates next best but I’m marking him a dry tracker, Ilwendo will lead and kick, while Savacool might be ready to run a race.

Race 8 – 9 Nindamos (one unit)
Speculator time. Nindamos came from last to win at his previous start, yes it’s only Kembla, but he drops 3.5 kilos here with weight around him. Ljungberg has the heavy track form if that works for you. The 1300 suits as well. Starspangled Rodeo hasn’t run on heavy but his fresh run was good. He’ll be in it if he handles the surface.

Race 9 – 5 Mansa Musa (one unit)
If I went Nindamos in the previous race, I sort of have to go with Mansa Musa to finish off. He was second in the same race fresh. I guess I’ll know about half an hour prior whether I’m in the ball park or not. Adelong is a nice type but at $2.50 I think I’ll take the long way home.

So there we have it, trust the system and trust in Bottega! Thanks for following, as always thanks for reading and please leave your tips and comments.
