All good things must come to an end I guess and Winx is perhaps the best good thing we have ever seen.
Seeking her 33rd consecutive race win, the champion mare will parade for racing fans one more time and the result will most likely be as impressive and dominant as her past glories.
Run under weight for age conditions and a storied and famous race won by champions of the Australian turf, the Queen Elizabeth is a fitting way for Winx to farewell her legion of supporters.
In the 2000-metre race, two horses that have been toweled up time and time again by the mare will try for one final time to shock the racing world and pull off the upset of all upsets.
It is hard to see a loss ending the career of Australia’s most loved horse but Happy Clapper and Hartnell will give it a shot.
If in cahoots, they may well be a chance, however if Winx is able to find her legendary sustained acceleration and sheer power, even that might prove fruitless against her.
Outside the two main challengers there is little to write home about in terms of realistic chances to win the race.
Harlem, He’s Eminent, Danzdanzdance and Shillelagh are all very good horses, yet not in the same class as Winx. She should have them all beaten half way down the famous Randwick straight.
Whether Happy Clapper and Hartnell are ahead by enough of a distance to rattle the champ is highly questionable and the sight of Winx roaring down the outside to another victory is likely.
Prediction
Going out on a limb here – Winx will win!
In a triumphant end to potentially the greatest domestic racing career Australia has even seen, Happy Clapper and Danzdanzdance will fill the minor places before the sellout crowd at Randwick is brought to tears for the final time by a great racehorse.
