I can’t help but look on with envy at some of the beauties, as well as a scowl of disapproval at some of the jerseys released for this upcoming 2021-22 season.

Adelaide United’s traditional all-red strip features an eye-catching pattern on the sides which references one of South Australia’s native flora, the Sturt’s desert pea.

The beautiful away jersey is predominantly navy blue, but has dusk blue shading with a gradient pattern to represent the vineyards of the famed South Australian wine region.

Will fans purchase it due to being the colour of arch rival Melbourne Victory, though?

Melbourne Victory have stuck to their traditional navy blue home and white away strip.

Both Macron-designed jerseys have fluro accents on the collars and sleeves but still have the unfortunate eye sore of a massive V across the jersey.

Brisbane Roar are another side that have stuck with its traditional jerseys – orange, white and black.

This season’s New Balance incarnations pay homage to Brisbane’s 1950s Dutch roots with a Hollandia Inala logo on the inside the neckline along with a history piece and the Dutch royal coat of arms incorporated in the badge.

The Central Coast Mariners’ new kit supplier Paladin has done a wonderful job on their three traditional jersey colours – yellow, blue and white.

Although they are not the most striking looking, they are all extremely clean and are right up there with the best kits the Mariners have ever had.

Black and white striping is synonymous with many famous clubs, but the Bulls’ Macron home kit will go down as one of the worst black and white strips made – the top half of the front of jersey sees the prison bars broken to display a massive splash of white emblazoned with the sponsor and logos.

Macarthur follow up their disappointing home jersey with an extremely bland ochre-coloured away one.

Puma have designed Melbourne City’s jersey this season and look to have made an error with the sky blue home jersey, by giving it white sleeves. The away kit is a lot more interesting being dark green and sharing the same patterned design as India’s Bengaluru FC.

The Newcastle Jets have reverted back to their historic gold home kit which will see them ranked near the bottom in the fashion stakes. This coupled with the white away strip that has a single red and blue vertical line down the middle may have the Jets thinking about a new kit supplier.

Perth Glory continue Macron’s horror run with 21-22 jerseys – the purple home design is offset by a diagonal hoop and the away kit is teal. Both jerseys still have the front of shirt sponsor BHP in 72 point font when it needs to be 12 point.

Under Armour have worked their magic on Sydney FC’s kits – the traditional sky blue home jersey stays, the white away kit see itself fading into sky blue but the violet third away strip is right up there with the best looking strips in the league.

The Wanderers always produce a nice Kappa kit with the horizontal black and red stripes for home and much like the Western United black and green vertical stripes, both teams’ white away kits leave a lot to be desired.

Wellington Phoenix’s manufacturer Paladin has brought the club’s trademark look of black stripes on yellow back and an interesting blue and aqua away kit.

In terms of what are the best and worst looking kits of season 21-22, that’s a matter of opinion, but I think you’ll be hard pressed to beat Sydney FC’s violet and Adelaide United’s navy strips.

There is one thing I’m certain of though – Macron every season win the award for worst kit manufacturer in the A-League.
