Round 17 will see the New Zealand Warriors travel across the ditch to face the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 5:30pm (AEST).

With State of Origin done and dusted for 2019, it’s time for the NRL to heat up again, and what better way to do that than with a clash between two teams desperate to stay in touch with the top eight?

The Warriors are in 11th place while the Broncos are 14th, but with both teams on 14 points (along with the Dragons and Cowboys) and with the Panthers, Tigers and Sharks above them on 16 points, there is plenty riding on the outcome of this game.

While the winner of this game will stay well in the hunt for a finals berth, and could possibly finish the round in 8th place depending on other results, the loser will likely be left languishing as low as 14th on the ladder, crucially being two or three wins out of the eight. Quite simply, a loss in this game could easily spell disaster for either side.

The Broncos are coming off a courageous win over the Sharks last Sunday. They welcome back Anthony Milford from a knee injury, who will take his place in the side at fullback, pushing Darius Boyd back to five-eighth despite having one of his best games of the season at the back last week.

All three of the Broncos’ Origin players have been named to back up, with Corey Oates taking his position on the left flank while Joe Ofahengaue and David Fifita will both come off the bench.

Jake Turpin moves from five-eighth to halfback to cover for the loss of Sean O’Sullivan to a hamstring injury against Cronulla last week.

Finally, young guns Xavier Coates and Herbie Farnworth have both retained their spots in the starting side after both debuted impressively at Shark Park last weekend, although Englishman Farnworth has moved to the centres to cover for the loss of Gehamat Shibasaki to a finger injury.

For the Warriors, there is just one forced change for coach Stephen Kearney after Karl Lawton’s shoulder injury against the Knights last week. Issac Luke comes into the starting side for Lawton while Chanel Harris-Tavita is the new man on the bench.

Prediction
This one could really go either way as both sides are desperate for the win to remain in touch with the finals.

Truthfully, I find it difficult to back either team given the way both their seasons have progressed thus far.

However, I do think the Warriors have a big advantage over the Broncos in that they had no one involved in Origin, and they have had 2 weeks to prepare for this game after coming off a bye last week.

I think the Warriors will win and win well.
